Troubleshooting WAP (Wireless Internet/My Wireless Window)
  - Your AT&T Wireless account must be provisioned
(not just enabled) for WAP (and Data Connect) to work properly. When you have an unlocked
(unsupported) phone, that can be done in one of two ways:

      - Temporarily put your SIM in a borrowed AT&T Wireless-supported phone with
        WAP capability (e.g., Sony
Ericsson T61z), and have your account enabled automatically,
which normally takes only 15 minutes or so.
(Once your WAP is provisioned and working, return the SIM to your own
        phone.)

      - Verify with Customer
Service that WAP has been enabled on your account (and Data Connect
        if desired), and then beg
and plead to be transferred to Technical Support. (You might
have to lie about having a supported Sony
Ericsson T61z that's not working to get there.) Then beg and
plead Technical Support to have your WAP provisioned manually.
(Good luck -- you'll probably need it!)

  - If you are repeatedly prompted for User id and Password when you go to My
Wireless Window, try the following work-around:

      - MENU: WAP services

        Clear cache

      - Empty cache?

      - Remove the battery without turning off the phone
        first.

      - Replace the battery, turn on the phone, and try again.

Data Connect (AT&T Wireless as ISP)
  - If you haven't already done so, you must have Cingular
    add Data
    Connect (also known as "Circuit
Switch Data") to "Wireless Internet". Since this uses
AT&T Wireless as the ISP, you do not need an account at a standard dial-up ISP.

  - Setup a Data Account on your phone:

NOTE: A Data Account is necessary only for the email client in
the phone. When connecting from an attached device (e.g.,
    notebook computer, PDA,
etc.), you do not need a Data Account, since the attached
device is responsible for dialing and authentication.

      - MENU: Settings

        Data comm.

        Data accounts

        Add account?

      - Account type: GSM data

      - Name: [enter descriptive name; e.g.,
        "AT&T Wireless ISP"]

      - Phone number: 18472549270

      - User id: WIDC0001@W4.MYCINGULAR.COM

        ["0001" is all numeric digits]

      - Password: ZXY203DC9K0402

        [all "0" are numeric digits]

      - Save?

      - Press and hold

        to return to main screen

      - MENU: Settings

        Data comm.

        Data accounts

      - Select Data Account you just created; e.g., "AT&T Wireless ISP"

      - Edit

          - Dial type: ISDN

      - Press and hold

        to return to main screen

      - The following settings are automatically set by default and should
        normally not be changed:

          - Passwd request: Off

          - Data rate: 9.6 kbits/s [14.4 kbits/s will not work]

          - DNS address: [blank]

  - The email client in the phone can access email at ordinary ISPs
using this Data Account, with the following caveats:

      - As a security measure, some ISPs will only allow you to retrieve
(POP3) email from their own networks, not from other Internet
        connections.

      - As an anti-spam measure, many ISPs will only allow you to send (SMTP)
email from their own networks, not from other Internet connections.

      - Older versions of T39 firmware have a bug that prevents sending email
unless there is at least one message waiting to be retrieved. If your
firmware has this bug, and your mailbox is empty, the workaround is to
send yourself a dummy email by SMS.
